Marathon: The Last Water Heater You’ll Ever Buy

Date: Sunday February 3, 2008

This water heater lasts 36 years. Comparing it to a tankless water heater, it has a .94 efficiency factor compared to a .99 efficiency factor of a tankless, which translates to a $20/year difference in energy costs.

But then you have to consider the savings in installation cost. A tankless costs about $2250 to install, whereas a marathon costs just $950. That means that $20 difference would take 68 years to pay back.

Prices of marathon water heaters:
40 gallon $644.00
50 gallon $676.00
50 gallon (short) $717.00
85 gallon $845.00
105 gallon $914.00
